Te tūraka mahi / The role
We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled analyst to join our team and help shape how the University monitors and progresses its commitments to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
In this role, you will apply a Te Ao Māori lens to the analysis and reporting of data, providing insights that support Māori student and staff success across the University. You will work with both quantitative and qualitative information, producing evidence-informed reports and narratives that highlight opportunities, surface challenges, and guide strategy.
Your work will contribute to University-wide reporting and the evaluation of key frameworks including Pae Tata, the Māori Strategic Framework, and the Māori dimensions of the Learner Success Plan. You will be a trusted voice helping shape decision-making, contextualise data for mana whenua and Māori stakeholders, and ensure the ethical and culturally safe use of information.
This is a collaborative and strategic role, working closely with the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Māori, Strategy, Analytics and Reporting Office, and teams across the University.

To be successful in this role, you will bring a strong understanding of data analysis and reporting, combined with a deep appreciation of Te Ao Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
We are looking for someone who can confidently translate data into insights, craft meaningful narratives, and support strategic priorities in a culturally safe and thoughtful way.
Key skills and experience include:
• Experience in data analysis, including the use of statistical and qualitative methods.
• Knowledge of or experience applying Te Ao Māori perspectives in research, evaluation or strategy.
• Demonstrated understanding of the tertiary education landscape and the experience of Māori students and staff.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to a range of audiences, including non-technical users.
• Proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• An ethical approach to working with sensitive information, with a strong focus on privacy and cultural safety.
• Experience supporting organisational reporting, evaluation, or strategic initiatives is advantageous.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Māori Office provides strategic advice to whakamana i Te Tiriti o Waitangi in the academic and research domains of the University.

This is a full time, permanent position, located in Ōtepoti, Dunedin.
We offer competitive salary, five weeks’ annual leave, a 6.75% superannuation scheme, and the ability to achieve real work/life balance.

The appointment range for this role is $80,749 to $85,649, Top of Range $100,776
