Reporting to the Dean, the Sessional Instructor provides instruction to students in the B.Ed. Program at Ontario Tech University.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities: 

The primary responsibility of the applicant is to (develop and) teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level within the parameters of the course description listed above.  In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, the Sessional Lecturer will deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments. The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC. The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract. 

Qualifications:  

The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellent teaching contributions with a proven aptitude in teacher education with ample experience.

Required Skills:

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated excellent teaching contributions in teacher education at the post-secondary level including:

• A proven ability to integrate technology meaningfully and effectively in an in-person and online learning environment
  
• A strong ability to design and lead interactive, collaborative learning experiences in an in-person and online learning environment
  
• A strong understanding of post-secondary undergraduate education
  
• Sound knowledge of appropriate and effective evaluation of undergraduate student performance
  
• Excellent organizational skills to effectively manage course delivery, marking of assignments, and responding to student enquiries in a timely manner
  
• A proven commitment to providing innovative and inclusive teaching strategies
  
• Evidence of an ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment
  
• Excellent communication skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with a range of faculty, staff and students
  
• Evidence of a successful integration of planning, instruction, assessment and cultivating classroom learning communities
  
• Evidence of an ability to reflect on one’s own professional practice and adapt practices as needed
  
• Evidence of teaching that fosters reflection, creativity, innovation, critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration
  
• Evidence of integration of digital technologies with instructional practice
  
• Demonstrated evidence of understanding of how teachers learn and develop
  
• Knowledge of education in the Ontario context
  
• Evidence of a well-grounded understanding of curricular and pedagogical design, educational research, and assessment
  
  

 Education:

• A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study
  
• A Master’s degree is required
  
• A Doctoral degree is an asset
  

Experience:

The successful candidate has demonstrated the following:

• Extensive theoretical and practical background in EDI, Culturally Responsive Pedagogy, critical pedagogy and decolonizing pedagogies
•  Experience with Indigenous ways of knowing and inquiry from Indigenous perspectives,
•  Experience with sustainability, and environmentalism in education
•  Extensive knowledge and experience of how the theoretical foundations of decolonialization is applied in practice (K-12 and post-secondary)
•  Successful post-secondary teaching
• Successful infusion of digital technologies in practice as purposeful teaching tools for, as, and of learning in the classroom
  
• Experience with evidence-based, or research-informed practice
  
•  Successful teaching incorporating an LMS, fully online learning platforms especially Canvas
  
• Success in building in-person and virtual learning communities

Priority will be given to an Internal Applicant who has taught any course for the University in three (3) different sessions in the past thirty-six (36) months, provided they meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the job posting.
