We seek a scholar in American Politics, Indigenous Politics, Environmental Politics, and/or Media who can contribute upper and lower division undergraduate courses in American Politics, Indigenous Politics, Environmental Politics, and/or Media. These courses serve our department and General Education. Teaching load will consist of three three-credit courses each semester (Fall and Spring) offered at the introductory as well as advanced levels in both the candidate’s expertise and related courses.


The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence in a liberal arts environment at a regional state university located in a rural island setting. Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teach undergraduate courses within the major and General Education
  2. Offer undergraduate courses in American Politics, Indigenous Politics, Environmental Politics, and/or Media, that contribute to our political science program, with related courses as needed
  3. Maintain an active agenda of scholarly research and peer-reviewed publication  
  4. Participate in service work, and fulfill other duties assigned by the department chair
  5. Serve on appropriate department, college, and university committees
  6. Contribute to department activities
  7. Advising of students

Minimum Qualifications

  1. At time of appointment, Ph.D. from an accredited college or university in Political Science, Politics, or Government.
  2. Demonstrated research productivity in American Politics, Indigenous Politics, Environmental Politics, and/or Media with at least academic publication (book chapter or peer-reviewed article) in American Politics, Indigenous Politics, Environmental Politics, and/or Media
  3. Evidence of High-Quality Teaching in American Politics, Indigenous Politics, Environmental Politics, and/or Media

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated ability to teach in multiple areas: American Politics, Indigenous Politics, Environmental Politics, and/or Media
  2. Demonstrated interest in the politics of Hawai‘i
  3. Experience teaching and advising in a multicultural setting
