The Opportunity:

As the Coordinator of the Indigenous Youth Program in Katherine, you will lead a dynamic team of Youth Workers to deliver safe, fun and dynamic programs that create opportunities for personal growth and development for young people. With expertise in working with young people, you will collaborate with them and external stakeholders to support young people in achieving positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Excellence: Oversee the day-to-day operations, ensuring a fun, safe and dynamic environment for young people.
  • Financial Leadership: Assist in financial planning, payroll, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Team Management: Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing team dedicated to delivering exceptional service and programs.
  • Risk Management: Assist in overseeing risk management strategies to ensure a safe and secure environment in accordance with relevant legislation.
  • Program Delivery: Design and deliver innovative programs that meet the needs of our diverse community.
  • Project Planning: Assist in the development of both long-term and short-term projects for the successful operation of the centre, including program development and strategies for long-term success.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage and collaborate to improve local relationships while working collaboratively to identify partnerships, programs, and events that may benefit the community.
  • Fostering Inclusiveness: Maintain a clean, welcoming, and open environment where all young people are welcome.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant degree with experience, or associate diploma with substantial expertise, or Certificate IV with extensive experience
  • Current NT driver’s license.
  • Current First Aid Certificate (HLTAID003 or higher) and CPR.
  • Program development experience
  • Understanding of policy development and advocacy
  • Youth work experience
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work under limited supervision and to demonstrate initiative when required.
  • Demonstrated ability and successful experience in leading a team.
  • Ability to respond to changes in work instructions and learn new skills.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and evening when required.

Mandatory Requirements

YMCA, including its Boards of Directors, are committed to the safety and well-being of children and young people in accordance with our Safeguarding Children and Young People framework. YMCA requires that all applicants undergo satisfactory screening prior to commencement, including but not limited to:

  • Valid Working with Children Clearance.
  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check.

Any successfully appointed applicant will be required to adhere to the Safeguarding Children and Young People framework, which includes a thorough safeguarding children and young people induction and a commitment to upholding the safety and wellbeing of children and young people throughout their engagement with YMCA.
